We are super fortunate to have a double bill with two awesome local acts.
Somewhere between a broken kettle, a stolen tambourine and an ill-timed thunderstorm over Magdalen Road Village in late 2023, five songwriters accidentally summoned something louder than common sense. They called it Monkey’s Uncle. Benedict, Doug, Julian and Nigel were already dabbling in sonic mischief, but when Miranda Elloway stepped into The Clubhouse studio with lyrics sharper than a hangover and melodies softer than your mate’s first breakup, the whole project levelled up. Imagine Blondie ditching New York for Cowley Road, Joni Mitchell spilling tea with The Hives, and The Carpenters discovering distortion pedals — that’s the territory. After a year in the lab, Monkey’s Uncle are finally ready to escape into the wild. Oxford, brace yourself.
Selver are an up-and-coming indie-rock band from Oxford that combine introspective depth, unexpected influences, and infectious grooves to create their own take on the city’s history of forward-thinking music. Started by songwriter Jamie Williams in order to give life to some tracks that had been hidden away for years, the group have grown into a deft six-piece that balance big pop hooks with enchanting melodies. Having wowed venues like The Bullingdon, The Jericho Tavern, and The Port Mahon, Selver will be heading into the studio later in 2024 to record their first tracks.
Selver are Andy Braithwaite, Antonia, Jacob Burgess, Veronica Valverde, Rick Varnham, and
Jamie Williams.
